EqualAI Awarded a Patrick J. McGovern Foundation Grant to Advance AI Literacy

EqualAI Wins Patrick J. McGovern Foundation Support to Promote AI Literacy Through Expanded Educational Resources and Thought Leadership

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 13, 2024) — EqualAI, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting AI self-governance, has been awarded a grant from the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation to deepen and broaden its AI literacy initiatives. With this funding, EqualAI will empower more individuals across various sectors and communities by providing them with curated tools and resources to confidently leverage AI in their professional and daily lives.

“This grant will support the launch of a new project intended to increase public understanding of AI capabilities and limitations,” according to EqualAI President and CEO Miriam Vogel. “By curating and sharing educational resources from trusted sources, as well as hosting events to align stakeholders and amplify efforts, EqualAI seeks to ensure that AI serves as a force for societal good and empowerment.”

Throughout the coming year, EqualAI will convene stakeholders in a series of events to align AI literacy efforts, amplify educational resources, and engage key political, academic and industry leaders in support of broader community AI engagement. EqualAI believes AI literacy requires a cross-sector approach and multi-stakeholder communication. In support of this effort, EqualAI will launch a series of high-level convenings to engage AI thought leaders, align AI literacy efforts, and amplify beneficial resources.

Early in the New Year, EqualAI will release a special series of the In AI We Trust? podcast. Building on the podcast’s global reach, EqualAI will offer a series focusing specifically on AI literacy, featuring prominent leaders in the technology, education, and governance fields. This special series will provide listeners with valuable insights and discussions around AI’s impact on society, who is leading in this area of AI literacy, and how listeners can benefit from these experts.

To ensure equal access to key resources, EqualAI will create a collection of educational resources in a centralized hub on its website. This hub will offer a trusted source for AI literacy materials, ensuring that educators, policymakers, and the general public have easy access to reliable, up-to-date information. These resources will help facilitate informed, responsible discussions and self-governance regarding AI. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that more individuals and organizations are able to confidently and wisely use AI to enhance their daily and professional lives.
